Founded in 1946 by the AMU Students Union, AMU ABK High School, initially known as a Madarsa, began its journey with the purpose of teaching Urdu and imparting lessons in the recitation of the Holy Quran to grade IV employees’ children at the University and the educationally marginalized segments of the Muslim Community. The school took its first steps in a small capacity, aiming to provide foundational education. In 1950, the Madarsa underwent a significant change as it was relocated to a larger space adjacent to Sir Syed Hall, indicating its growing influence. Fast forward to 1988, the institution underwent a transformation, being rebranded as Abdul Baseer Khan Union School and achieving the status of a Junior High School. Moreover, during the academic year 1985-86, the Boys’ Section found its establishment at Emadul Mulk Road, further expanding the school footprint.

The school’s trajectory took a momentous turn when it was taken under the umbrella of AMU. A significant milestone was reached when the University Grants Commission (UGC) granted approval to integrate ABK Union High School boys into the regular secondary school system of AMU. This decision was reached during a UGC meeting on December 22, 2011. Subsequently, a moment of celebration unfolded on January 14, 2011, at the Boys’ Section of the school, where the former Vice-Chancellor, Professor P.K Abdul Aziz, unveiled a commemorative stone signifying the school’s new status as AMU, ABK High School. The UGC’s endorsement for the transformation of ABK Union High School into a High Secondary School of AMU came into effect from April 1, 2013. This marked a significant chapter in the school’s history, solidifying its integration with the esteemed Aligarh Muslim University.
